GLASS BREAKER

The Ecostar screening technology specifically designed to process glass and glass-rich waste streams in municipal solid waste (MSW) collection plants and in single-material recycling applications.

GLASS BREAKER

Crushing and separation in one solution

Thanks to a dedicated design and reinforced thickness, the Glass Breaker is able to crush even whole bottles and to select and separate glass fragments from other waste streams such as plastics and PET, paper and cardboard, or cans, ensuring an optimal process and high separation efficiency. To meet specific separation requirements, Ecostar technology offers screening options ranging from 30 to 150 mm.

Available in two configurations

Installation in the first screening section only

When installed only in the first screening section, the Glass Breaker operates as a high-impact crusher.
The dynamic movement of the Hardox discs breaks bottles and other types of glass into smaller pieces, separating them into the desired undersize fraction, which falls beneath the screen. The jolting motion generated by the disc configuration allows lightweight materials, such as PET and packaging, to move forward to the second screening section, where the DDS system (Dynamic Disc Screening) provides further separation of mixed materials.

Installation across the entire screening surface

To process high-glass-content streams or mixed materials such as multi-material waste, the Glass Breaker can cover the entire screening deck. During operation, glass is crushed and the undersize fraction drops through the spaces between the discs beneath the screening surface, while the oversize fraction advances along the full separation deck.

Benefits of the Glass Breaker technology

Both Hexact and Hextra are fully compatible with the Ecostar Glass Breaker and can be seamlessly integrated with additional technologies such as air separators and shredders, maximizing material processing and recovery.

Organic waste pre-treatment in biomethane plants

How advanced waste screening protects digesters and optimizes organic fraction treatment The food scraps and leftovers discarded daily make up what the sector defines as the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW). Long considered merely an expensive disposal burden, this material has emerged as one of the most promising feedstocks for renewable energy production. … Continued

Construction and Demolition waste management: the role of waste screening technologies

Key data on how advanced screening technology transforms C&D waste recycling According to official DEFRA statistics, the recovery rate for construction and demolition waste in the United Kingdom stands at 93.8%. A figure that, on the surface, would seem to leave little room for debate. The problem is that this number tells only part of … Continued

Waste screening technologies: which one fits your next recycling plant?

Disc screens, trommels, vibrating or star screens: a technical comparison When designing a new waste treatment line, or upgrading an existing one, screening technology is often seen as a secondary choice. In reality, it plays a much bigger role in overall plant performance than expected. It affects energy consumption, maintenance planning, plant footprint, and the … Continued
