BIOMASS SCREENING AND CLEANING FROM INERT MATERIALS
Biowaste is an immense potential resource and, if treated and processed well, it can turn into a powerful, productive and cost-effective source for clean energy production.
Along with the recycling and biogas industries that have had significant growth over the past years, Ecostar has developed specific and very efficient machines for the organic waste screening, the green compost screening, the sifting of high-quality compost, and biomass screening and cleaning from inert materials.
Biomass for the energy market
For 2018, BioEnergy Europe has released an interesting statistic that started from converting the forecasts for Europe’s energy consumption in a one year calendar format. The report reveals biomass as a growing contributor in the energy market, covering the entire energy need (meaning heat, cool, power and transport) of all 28 Member States for a period of 43 days in 2018. Looking back at year 2000, when bioenergy was providing 18 days clean energy to Europeans, this is a significant growth.
But still, fossil and nuclear energy are, according to the same BioEnergy statistic, Europe’s primary sources of energy covering 293 days in 2018, and renewables (excluding bioenergy) covering the rest of 29 days.
This makes Europe dependable on foreign energy sources like crude oil, natural gas and solid fuels, thus also leading to less jobs and economic opportunities for Europeans in the energy sector. Not to mention the huge strain that fossil fuel has on the environment, with scientists stressing that unless humanity scales back fossil fuel use, the planet could warm by 3 degrees by 2100, which could lead towards a catastrophic climate change.
Where does Italy stand?
Biomass is significant as well to Italy’s renewable energy and accounts for an ever-growing share of the electric capacity. According to a GSE report (Energy from renewable sources in Italy – 2016) the contribution of the bioenergy (biomass, biogas and bioliquids) to the production of the national electric energy in Italy, in 2016 was around 5,7%.
Biomass screening and cleaning from inert materials.
So why the biomass screening is such an important step in the process of recovering waste? And how can we produce more energy from all the biowaste we generate?
Ecostar Sales & Marketing Director, Filippo Cappozzo, explains: “The treatment and the separation of biomass render the wood suitable to power supply the small and medium-large sized power stations and boilers. This process allows wood to perform a zero-impact service, because it comes directly from nature. Let’s not forget that a big part of the biomass derives from pruning and deforestation that happen naturally, thus the wood “waste” turns into an ecological and useful resource. Naturally, the wood that is grounded needs to be cleaned, and it is in this phase that the disc screen best separates the inert soil from the biomass, thus calibrating in “chip” the right dimension to perform at its best.”
If you are considering buying a screening machine for your business, here are 3 main reasons for you to take into consideration:
– The quality of the separation: the Ecostar technology uses a series of shafts with a patent that makes it very reliable, where the material flows over the discs receiving a trembling movement that optimizes the separation, thus leading to an excellent result even if the material is still wet or mixed with plastics or soil.
– Screening capacity: A stationary or mobile Ecostar screen can treat up to 200 t/h of biomass.
– Low consumption: The efficiency of the Dynamic Disc Screening technology permits the use of a 7.5 kW electric motor every 4 meters of screening surface. This makes this technology very efficient in terms of power consumption, saving up to 70% of installed energy when compared to traditional screening systems.
